This might just be my favourite thing on the entire planet.’ (Three Weeks ★★★★★)
A ground-breaking improvised show, Rhapsodes combines daring poetic stunts, moving storytelling, a new Shakespeare play made up on the spot, and as much of the audience as possible.
Following in the tradition of the Ancient Athenian poetic competitions, two brave rhapsodes must channel the great writers of the past 3,000 years. Drawing upon a vast range of writers living and dead, the performers extemporise an authentic Shakespeare play with each new audience. Wild, antic and unlike anything you’ve ever seen, this is a celebration of the poetic, the dramatic and the absurdly comic.
Award-winners Adam Meggido and Sean McCann have improvised at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Olivier Theatre (RNT), The Royal Court Theatre, Elsinore Castle Denmark, for the BBC, as well as performances in Italy, China, Canada, Austria, Germany, India and Norway. They are also world record holders in long-form improvisation (55 hours in Toronto 2013).
